Neoprene aerobic dumbbells are the light weights that actually get used. They live under a sofa, they do not roll away, and they do not chip the floor when you put them down.
Why neoprene rather than bare iron
Neoprene has a real advantage: it is far less slippery when your hands become sweaty. Bare iron and chrome both get slick, and slick is how a dumbbell ends up on a foot.
The coating also protects your floors and your other fitness equipment, and it wipes clean rather than transferring rust onto your hands.
The hexagonal shape
Hexagonal dumbbells stack easily and stay where you put them. Round dumbbells roll, and a rolling 5 kg weight on a sloped floor finds furniture and toes with impressive reliability.
The flat faces also let you use them as push-up handles, which is a small but genuinely useful bonus.
What to use them for
Aerobics, strength training, home gym work, and toning for arms, shoulders and back. Light weights done for high repetitions are the foundation of most toning programmes.
They are also widely used for physiotherapy exercises, where control matters far more than load and 1 to 2 kg is exactly the right range.
Neoprene aerobic dumbbells specifications
- Weight range: 1 kg to 5 kg
- Core: cast iron
- Coating: vinyl dipped, super-grip neoprene
- Shape: hexagonal, roll-free and stackable
- Sold as: a pair of each weight
- Uses: aerobics, strength training, toning, physiotherapy
Choosing your weight
For toning and aerobics, 1 to 2 kg is usually right — you should be able to do fifteen to twenty controlled reps. For strength work on small muscles like the rotator cuff, stay light. For curls and rows, 4 to 5 kg is a sensible starting point for most people.
Many households buy two pairs at different weights rather than one, since different exercises want different loads.
Who they suit
Beginners, anyone doing aerobics or yoga with weights, older users, and anyone following a physiotherapy programme. They also work well in studios where equipment gets handled constantly.
Pair them with a mat from our yoga accessories, or browse the rest of our dumbbells for heavier options.
