Description

The Merc 1916 treadmill is a straightforward, well-built home machine. No colour touchscreen, no app — just a solid welded frame, a 16% incline and eight programmes that cover what most people actually do.

Motor, incline and speed

A 2.0HP motor drives the belt, and the incline reaches 16%. That gradient is the important number: walking at 16% is harder work than jogging on the flat, and it is far kinder to your knees.

Because the machine supports users up to 120 kg, it suits most households rather than only lighter runners.

Eight preset programmes

The programmes cover manual operation, weight-loss, mountain-climbing and competition modes, among others. Meanwhile the console tracks speed, distance, time, slope, heart rate and calories, and there is a Hi-Fi switch and a jog flash function built in.

Heart rate is read through the handles: hold both grips and the display picks up your pulse. It is not as accurate as a chest strap, but it is enough to tell whether you are working or coasting.

Frame and shock absorption

The body is welded from thick, stable steel, and the running board sits at ground level with dual anti-shock. Eight separate anti-shock parts sit under the deck, which is what turns a hard landing into a cushioned one.

That construction is also why the machine does not shudder at speed. Weight in the frame is what buys stability.

Who the Merc 1916 treadmill suits

It suits households that want a real treadmill rather than a walking pad, without paying for a semi-commercial machine. The 16% incline in particular makes it a strong choice for anyone training for weight loss rather than speed.

Price in Kenya

It is KSh 83,000, down from KSh 89,000. That places it between the compact walking pads and the semi-commercial machines, which is exactly where most serious home buyers should be looking.
