A leather weight lifting belt does not hold your back together. It gives your abdominals a wall to push against, and that internal pressure is what stabilises your spine when the bar gets heavy.
How a leather weight lifting belt works
You brace against the belt, not inside it. Take a breath, push your stomach out into the leather, and the resulting pressure supports your spine from the front. As a result your torso stays rigid through the lift instead of folding.
The 4-inch width spreads that pressure evenly across your abdominals and lower back at the same time. Narrower belts concentrate it; wider ones get in the way of a deep squat.
Built to last
The belt is cowhide with stainless steel hardware and high-precision double stitching around the edges. Cheap belts fail at the stitching or crack across the fold; that is exactly what the double row and the thickened construction are there to prevent.
Eleven adjustment holes let you set it precisely for your body and for the lift. Most people run a squat belt tighter than a deadlift belt, and eleven holes gives you room to do that.
